The time you roughly have in GMAT for every question is about 2minutes. But sometimes, if you don’t apply the right shortcuts and techniques, you might not reach anywhere within that short span of time. A good example is offered by prime numbers and divisibility, something you should know from the back of your head if you want to save those precious seconds for a tougher question. Here are some common tips that will stand you in good stead when it comes to divisibility patterns.
Testing for primes
When you are testing whether a number if prime or not, you only need to check if it can be divided by another prime number. For example, 13 is a prime number. When we are actually looking to find if it is divisible by any prime number that comes before it, we need to consider 2 and 3, both of which wouldn’t divide 13. If you want to test divisibility with 4, you only need to remember that since a factor of 4 which is 2, doesn’t divide 13, we don’t need to check with 4 at all. Read more…

In one of our posts How to Crack GMAT Quantitative Section, we had shared some tips on GMAT Quantitative tips. GMAT quantitative section has questions that are related to basic arithmetic, basic algebra, and geometry. The two primary types of questions found in the quantitative reasoning section of the GMAT are data-sufficiency questions and problem-solving questions
The questions found in this section of the exam will present the individual with a problem or set of information that the individual will have to use to:
- Solve the Mathematical Problem Presented

- Indicate Which Information Should be Considered
- Indicate the Amount of Information that is Necessary to Solve a Particular Problem
Nakrasov is an expereinced GMAT test creator and he has created a GMAT Quantitative Practice Test
This quant test has 30 questions and includes practice questions in both Problem Solving and Data Sufficiency .
Each question’s correct answer has been explained by the guru. At the end of the test , you can review your answers and look at explanations which will help you in identifying your shortcomings.
GMAT quantitative section is designed to test your aptitude for numerical analysis. It also evaluates your understanding of the fundamentals of mathematics. - Know Your Shortcuts: Since this section is calculation intensive, it always pays off if know the short cuts for making calculations.
- Remember your formulas: The important formulas you need to memorize for this test includes areas and perimeters of various shapes, rate of work and speed formulas and mixtures formulas. Use flash cards for the effective memorization of these important formulas.
- Do not waste your time remembering conversion tables. E.g. if a question involves two different units such as lb. and kg., the question itself will provide you with the conversion formula, if required. Read more…
