Tips for Maximising Your Score in GMAT Math Section

Maths or rather quantitative section in GMAT is not entirely about the applicants’ maths abilities and knowledge. Surely, those who have a better grasp of the fundamentals and a better application of whatever theories they know will score better. But at the end of the day, GMAT maths is all about showing presence of mind and being smart enough to look at every question for an opportunity to answer without hitting the big calculations. This is because the GMAT maths section is out there to test the basic standards and not to knock them off. Here are some of the tips that will help you maximise the GMAT maths scores.

Use paper and pencil

A lot of people miss out on easy pickings because of calculation mistakes. This could happen when one is doing all the calculations in their mind which is already filled with pressure. So it is better to use the pencil and paper as often as possible. Often it helps you answer better and faster too.

Practice as much as you can

Scoring good is one thing. Scoring exceptionally well in your GMAT quantitative section is about practice. Your abilities in verbal and analytical thinking sometimes depend more on your strengths than your practice. Quantitative though, is about practice, since a lot of it is taught to us while we are in school and so the fundamentals are not too hard to revise. It is about practicing a lot, to an extent that you can instinctively guess the pattern, use the right approach that you have practiced, know the formulae that you need to use in case of this problem etc. Practicing will also increase your speed to a great extent, which is required for scoring on most questions in such a short period of time.
