PRINCE2 is born out of the UK public sector and is a de facto UK Standard for project management. It’s adoption is especially popular in Europe and Australia, but its usage is all over the world. Its focus on the continuous business case justification and products gives it widespread appeal to any business that is first concerned with the pragmatics of projects and not just the activities that achieve them. PRINCE2 is flexible; organizations can apply PRINCE2 to any type of project, any scale and to any industry.
Many recommend to achieve certifications and/or experience in both PRINCE2 and PMP, even in the North American market, which is primarily focused on the latter. Advocates of PRINCE2 are impressed by its more prescriptive approach than PMP and its constant focus on the Business Case which is reviewed throughout the lifecycle. This and its orientation around product-based planning and quality have made it an enduring and increasingly successful project management system worldwide.
