For those who live in New England or in and around Boston , here is a chance to learn about Spring 3.0 and its Spring Tc Server. There is a presentation on Thursday Jan 14 organized by NEJUG (New engalnd Java Group) at Sun Microsystem in Burlington.

The presentation would be done by Tom McCuch who is a Sr. Sales Engineer at SpringSource

Presentation Overview

Spring Framework is the core of the Spring group of projects, the popular and ubiquitous open-source platform used by more than half of the organizations building and deploying Java applications. Spring adds value at development and runtime by providing a platform which allows programs to be coded using a “Plain-Java” programming model, with much increased portability, testability, and agility (ability to evolve) compared to traditional approaches.

This session focuses primarily on enhancements coming with Spring 3.0, which is slated for final release in less than a month. Areas covered include:
- Comprehensive REST support, allowing easy and lightweight implementation of service oriented architectures
- The new Spring Expression language (SpEL)
- Core dependency injection container enhancements including extended support for annotation based components, and support for standardized (JSR-330) dependency injection annotations.
- Plus other features, including declarative model validation support (JSR-303), next gen scheduling capabilities, and object/xml mapping capabilities, among others.

The session will finish with a demo of the PetClinic sample application included with the full Spring 3 distribution. The demo will include deploying and running the application within tc Developer Edition — which enhances Apache Tomcat to provide Java developers unparalleled insight into the performance and behavior of their Spring applications. tc Developer Edition is free to download and use and is also bundled within SpringSource Tool Suite, which is also a free download.

Are you aware of this scam going on social networks and various other sites where in they ask you to take a quiz to compare your IQ with Miley Cirus or take a personality test . The user take the quiz and at the end is asked to enter his/her phone number to see the results.

Most of the unsuspecting users just give their phone numbers without reading the fine print. In the fine print is the clause that you are agreeing to a charge of $9.99 being applied to your phone account on recurring basis. Once you enter the phone number and say yes, you get to see the results of quiz and an additional charge of $9.99 in your bill which you might miss. The parents of the teen age kid might dismiss this is some extra charge on kids phone and continue to pay unsuspectingly.

One of the name involved in this is Gamer Data.

A friend of mine saw these two new charges in his monthly bill. Look at the two records below.

GamerData Scam

These are charges by same company , Gamer Data but under different names. In the lengthy bill they appear at the end and he might have missed it but since his monthly bill increased by $20 and since he does engage in any fancy stuff, he decided to dive in details.

He was wondering as to when did he subscribed this premium service and talked to me about this. After I explained home about the various scams are taking place on internet , he gave a call to T-Mobile , his carrier and explained the situation. T-Mobile acknowledged that there are scams similar to Gamer data are going on and have received numerous complaints and credited the amount.

I did not understand one thing in this whole episode. If mobile carrier companies are aware that is a scam , why do they allow it to be billed in first place ?

Anyways this is a waring to all of you that do not give out your phone nos to any unknown sites or social network else you might be next victim.

Skill-Guru was started with the intent to create and share your knowledge with the community. Most of the time we take help from forums , sites and blogs when we are stuck in problem so I thought let there be a site where users can create tests based on their learning and share with others. I had taken my first certification in year 2000 and next one on year 2004 and had to run around to look for mock tests.

At that time never heard of brain dump . But these days this is one of the most serached term. “Brain dump for Java certifcation” , “brain dump for microsoft ” , “brain dump for CCNA” etc.

So what exactly is the brain dump ? Literal meaning -What ever is inside your brain , dump it out ? So what is inside your brain ? The learning which you have from book or your notes ? Nope.

Some one takes the test and after taking test , dumps everything from his brain into a site or blog. This could be done to help others or the test is taken with sole intent of creating a dump.

There has been a good post by Robert Williams The cheating industry that is devaluing IT certification. He makes a valid point that to get a certification by use of brain dump is nothing less than cheating and should be discouraged.

There was also a recent news that Microsoft has sued testking for allegedly having the questions exactly same as in original test.

Certification is meant to test your knowledge of what you have learned, to give a seal of approval to your learning. A person who has knowledge and experience , for him certification may not matter much. But just having a certification does not mean that you know your job well.

We at Skill-guru stand behind this principal and discourage brain dumps. Since this is a platform where gurus can come and create test, we do not evaluate each and every questions and do not have means to validate if it is brain dump or not. If you find anything which is in violation of copyright or illegal , please mail us at support@skill-guru.com and we will take immediate steps.

Virtualization has been a buzzword for me, until recently I stumbled across it and gave it a serious thought. I thought about sharing my experiences in this blog.

To start with we had some issues on our linux hosted webserver and had to do some sanity checks by duping it, on somewhat a similar kernel. The usual system resource crunch and the nagging system admins put me on a no mans land.

Left with no options, I decided to do some checks using ubuntu kernel. Remember I still have my notebook (windows XP) to try stuff on, I could have easily partitioned and installed ubuntu with windows and done my job. But probably I was more inclined to virtualization and thought of trying it out. I did some groundwork and came up with options like Sun Microsystems Virtual Box, VMware, virtual pc etc to name a few.

Suns Virtual box is a x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product and that helps me so I decided to move ahead with it.You can get more details from the virtual box website

Now I was ready for the download, the download was pretty straight forward and the product picked up all the notebook attached devices. Now I had to create a virtual hard disc on my parent OS and the steps were easy and well documented. But be sure to know the memory& HD size, space specifications for the OS you would need to install (I gave a 8 GB size for my ubuntu virtual partition). The virtual machine was created on click of the finish button, it was that simple.

I got a latest version of ubuntu and cut a CD for it, started the virtual box program ..selected the mounted CD disc drive and now it was like a clean machine which is ready to take any brutality . I kick started the ubuntu installation likewise I would do in any normal installation and went for some coffee, by the time I was back the installation was compelete and I was running an OS on a virtual machine !!!

The keyboard was a bit nasty initially to control the virtual OS, but setting some special key combinations solved the issue. I did my sanity checks which was the whole purpose of the karma and it turned out to be a good karma and was able to solve the problem.

Also later I came to know of the tool Disk2vhd by microsoft which is a utility for creating VHD (Virtual Hard Disk) which can be imported as an image/snapshot on our virtual box program. So in case you need to image your existing windows PC on another machine you can create a virtual hard disc out of it and import it. Making it possible to run the image as a virtual machine. Again the steps again are simple and its just clicks away.

Now am able to break the barriers of one OS/ machine and am able to test across platforms. Thanks to virtualization !! and hope this is of much help!
