Skill-Guru is the platform where experts a.k.a Guru create tests or quizzes .This platform can not only be used by experts but by training companies , trainer , head hunters , teachers to market their services towards a targeted set of users.

How would this be done ?

Below is the pictorial representation of how you can market yourself @skill-guru

skgFlow2

For eg if you are Oracle Trainer , you can create a test on Oracle Certification or quiz on new features of Oracle 11. Your tests links are also published through the skill-guru blog.

The users reach to the test through various social networks , twitter , digg and search engines

This is a very targeted form of advertising where in you are reaching to customers who really are interested in the services you have to offer.

How much does it cost ?

Nothing. This is absolutely FREE for now.

Do you have any feedback ,  comments or suggestion  ?

Saving state if connection breaks

August 30th, 2009 Vinay No comments

One of the users had complained that in skill-guru, if he was taking a test and he could not complete the test for some reason , let us say the internet connection breaks, he had to re start from the begining.

We had not thought of this feature but we could understand the frustration of the user hence we implemented this feature.

How this works : If a user is taking a test on skill-guru and he closes the browser or connection or switches of machine, he can resume the test once he logs back in. But he has to use the same machine and browser because we are saving the state in cookies.

This is a solution to help out the user from unforeseen circumstances.

This feature has been implemented from  26 August 2009.

Facebook or Twitter

August 29th, 2009 wali No comments
Facebook along with MySpace have been the leaders in social networking portals. Facebook however is trying hard to bridge the gap between them and fame of twitter.

Recent developments in Facebook were paradigm shift to their original approach, they revamped their presentation and this time they concentrated more on status messages just like twitter but little more powerful. Twitter, however has been a micro-messaging tool which became popular cuz of its simplicity and yet being powerful. This internet evolution has become one of the most significant modern trends since it has affected the way in which we do business and communicate with peers.

In last week news Facebook has launched a twitter-app, where in Facebook user can automatically syndicate their posts to Twitter, read more here. When Facebook made an attempt to acquire Twitter, and failed there was a rumor in market that Facebook will take different route to go the Tweet Way. Let’s see how much they will succeed.

Michael Jackson – We will always remember you

July 7th, 2009 Vinay No comments

Today on July 07, 2009 Michael Jackson’s funeral service has been held at Staples Center , LA. Thousand of friends and families came together to pay respect to a man who was one of the greatest entertainer of our times.

I would call myself fortunate to live in this era where Micahel Jackson was known as the King of the Pop . An amazing voice with incredible dance movements. Any body who wanted to learn dance always wanted to copy Michael Jackson. He was the Guru of dance , Guru of Pop.

Today is no more with us but his memories remain , his songs are with us and we will never forget the man , Michael Jackson.

May God Bless You.

Angel and VC’s Networking event in Boston

June 28th, 2009 Vinay No comments

Last week I went to attend Boston Angel Investor and Venture Capital Workshop organized by Funding Post. I had been skeptic of networking  events lately especially in this downturn where there are lot of similar events going on but they hardly yield any value. Not to mention I was also wondering if it was worth to invest $75 for such event.

Keeping my skepticism aside , I decide to attend the event.  The event was organized in the beautiful office of Bingham in the heart of Boston.  There were around 80 entrepreneurs and some people looking to build contacts and find jobs. But mostly it was a good match of people who had a diverse ideas and were looking for funds to either bootstrap their idea or to take it to the next event.

One of the best parts of the event was the panel of Angel Investors and VC’s who discussed on various topics from how to get fund in this economy , valuations etc . They also offered some pretty good advice to entrepreneurs on keeping their heads high.

I received some good feedback on the products geekevaluation.com and skill-guru from fellow members and had some encouraging words from some of the angels  group.

To summarize my experience, this is not the kind of event where you expect to go with your idea and come back with a check. This event is more in getting tunes with reality ,make some contacts and get feedback from people around as to what could be done to improve your product or service.

It was a time and $75 well spent at funding post event and look forward for some more events in future.
