June 22nd, 2009 Vinay No comments

In today’ s time of recession and all the gloom.. There is some good news for Apple .  In just three days (Friday to Sunday) Apple reported that it has sold over one million iPhone 3G’s. This number exceeded most of the analyst’s expectation and the iPhone 3G sold more than Palm Pre on its opening weekend.

Another feather to Apple’s cap was that there were over six million downloads of their iPhone OS 3.0 software since its release which is a huge number of people running the new OS in under a week.Though Steve Jobs isnt back to work yet he did make a comment that ” Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning,”. Well i would like to say Kudos to Apple :) .. So go ahead either grab the IPhone 3G or go ahead and download the new OS, it definately  has some really good features (which i talked about in my previous article)..

Twitter under attack

June 21st, 2009 Vinay No comments

Twitter has been a hot spot this year for worm, spam and phishing attacks, with the Mikeyy worm, and many other attacks hitting their site. The recent worm attack on Twitter is a virus that is spreading via a Twitter message claiming to be an invite from your friends and asking you to check your attachments. The attachment contains the Ackantta.B worm which is capable of taking over any machine it infects.

When it’s installed it immediately searches for any email contacts and sends itself to them, and sends your IP address to its botnet and prepares your PC for even more malware downloads.

This latest worm is not expected to spread very rapidly , due to the fact that many people are wary of opening their attachments, unless it is from a reliable source, plus many ISP’s do scan or block zip files.

Do follow the below tips and you can be safe:

1.dont follow people who follow you (check their profiles first)
2.don’t click on URLs in Tweets from people you don’t absolutely trust
3.protect your tweets so only people you approve can see them.

Go ahead and enjoy Tweeting..

June 21st, 2009 Vinay 2 comments

For the critics of outs ourcings, this should come as a news that India created 300,000 jobs in US.

This was told by Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma at a press conference at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in Washington after his meetings with US Trade Representative Ron Kirk and Commerce Secretary Gary Locke.

Mr Sharma said “About 100 Fortune 500 companies have their research and development hubs in India and 220 of them source their software from India. Don’t forget India has a huge information technology industry, (so) where does the hardware come from”

“That’s why any protectionist barrier is dangerous,” Sharma argued.

He said, “Indian industry in the five preceding years has invested over $106 billion in the US and created 300,000 jobs. IT industry alone has created 250,000 jobs in America.”

Apple iPhone OS 3.0 out now

June 17th, 2009 Vinay 1 comment

Just a few days back Apple released its iPhone OS 3.0 which has some really cool features. This would be an upgrade to all iPhone and iPod touch users.  This Operating System would be available on an international basis and is provided free of charge to all iPhone users. The iPod touch users need to pay $9.95 for the upgrade.

The iPhone 3.0 is a major update and has many long requested features like the  cut, copy and paste, push notifications, MMS and modem tethering and landscape keyboard.

Some of the other good improvements is the support for YouTube accounts, iTunes Store account creation on the device,  direct song, movie, TV show and audiobook purchases via WiFi and these are just some of them.

Some of the other features are the spotlight search which enable to search all of your contacts, emails, calendars and everything in your iPod. The shake to shuffle feature, where all you do is give the iPhone a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library.

It also allows you to automatically connect to the WiFi network. There are also some features , like stereo Bluetooth or MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) that lets you send images, audio, video and locations to other cellphone users, are not possible on the first-generation iPhone and iPod touch devices due to hardware constraints.

The U.S users should be aware that updating their devices wont yet allow them to enjoy MMS and modem tethering until AT&T enables these capabilities on its cellular network

A good news for International users is that iPhone OS 3.0 is in 34 languages and supports 40 keyboard layouts. These long awaited features will definitely bring a lot of smiles to the Apple users. To update your device just log on to iTunes 8 and then click on “Check for Update”and then download and install the update.

Go ahead, upgrade and enjoy these features…

Windows 7 ! Coming Soon!!

June 17th, 2009 Vinay 1 comment

Come this holiday season, Microsoft would be releasing its Windows 7 OS in the market. The Windows 7 RC1 was made available just about a week ago, and people started comparing it with Microsoft’s last OS Vista .

Its earlier release date was in in 2010. But if Microsoft releases Windows 7 during Black Friday and Christmas ( the best time) Microsoft would expect many PC’s sold.Another reason why Microsoft is planning to get Windows 7 in the market earlier is because Vista did not do so well.

Many people (including me) are hesitant to use vista. Many people are stuck with XP(though i am not complaining:)), and some people have completely switched to Mac. For Microsoft to keep its authority in terms of OS alive, they need to roll out Windows 7 as soon as possible.

Overall the reviews were that the look remains the same, and there are some key features which includes some overall improvements in terms of stability and performance.(Now that’s good :) )

Also Windows RC 1 will be free to use until June 1 , 2010 ( with a catch !! of course). After March 1, 2010, your computer will automatically shut down every two hours. In other words, you need to install another operating system then.

Come soon Windows 7 :)
